Her content is relatable to all families looking to create an active and healthy lifestyle."-Ellen, NC"I was an early user of the MPower course, and I did not know what to expect. But I can honestly say, it was more than I had hoped for. Not only are we eating better as a family, my kids have accepted the changes with smiles not tears. While healthy family eating was my primary goal, I am a better parent in general after this course. The insight on how to talk to my kids about food ( I have very picky eaters) works for all aspects of our parent-child relationship. Thank you Dr Perez, great stuff."-Joe from Chicago

Courses
The Health Behavior Lifestyle (HBL) course is designed for families with one or more members with overweight or obesity; or families looking to improve health via nutrition and lifestyle change. Over 5 hours broken down into 8 modules, Dr. Perez provides information, implementation, strategies and guidance for managing challenges. In this on demand educational course Dr. Perez will coach families not just on nutrition but on how to make lasting habit formation for the entire family.
This is NOT a diet. We are no promoting any niche fads. We are not selling any supplements. Dr. Perez will help you decide the best eating plan for your family based on your preferences, as well as making plans for movement, mindfulness, and sleep.

Obesity Medicine
As a board certified Pediatric Obesity Medicine Doctor, I have the ability to see patients in the state of Illinois for in person consultation and IHBLT. The number one, researched and recommended treatment for children with overweight and obesity is Intensive Health Behavior Lifestyle Treatment for the entire family. This consists of regular meetings with a physician, dietitian, therapists, physical therapist and other experts to focus on behavior change. For those who qualify, medication management is also an option.
FAQs
How is MPower IHBLT different that seeing my regular pediatrician?
Time
- Unfortunately, pediatricians just don't have enough time in their days to devote the energy needed to focus on behavior change
Knowledge
- I have addition training and Board Certification in the area of Obesity Medicine. Most Pediatricians have been trained on, eat less, exercise more. But as you'll learn, it is so much more complex than that
Where is the research that says this approach works?
- The AAP spent years developing its first ever clinical practice guidelines on the treatment for overweight and obesity. The research showing that IHBLT works is very strong. Not to mention, we know that "eat less exercise more" isn't working
I've heard the AAP endorsed the use of medication and bariatric surgery for children and adolescents. Is this a program to give kids medications?
- Like most chronic conditions, medications are part of our discussions when appropriate. But whether using medications or not, everyone should be focusing on the components of lifestyle medicine first; nutrition, exercise, sleep, mindfulness, meaningful connections and avoiding toxic substances
Will you be prescribing a meal plan?
- Nope. I want you to eat foods that you like. Different approaches work for different people. I will certainly guide you and give suggestions, but this is NOT a diet, it's a focus on lifestyle change
Is IHBLT only for children with overweight and obesity?
- No. Maybe your kids are normal weight, but not eating a nutritious diet. Maybe your child has headaches, or constipation or anxiety, and you know they are not moving enough and spending too much time on their screens. MPower is for you as well.
What if as an adult, I really just want to focus on myself and not have my children be a part of the process (or may you know someone who could use this kind of help but they don't have kids)
